My First Pop-Up
I recently had the opportunity to work alongside the incredible Sarah (@sarah_on_a__whim), in collaboration with @blocksetproject and @naseeb.studio. Being able to support small, women-owned businesses in Philadelphia during Bok’s Open Studio felt so aligned with my values and purpose — it made saying “yes” to my very first pop-up feel like the right leap.
Usually, when I do in-studio photography, I spend 2+ hours with each client — learning their story, understanding their vision, and carefully building something meaningful together. This time, I worked in 15-minute increments from 4:45pm to 9:15pm. At first, I was nervous it would feel rushed or impersonal, but instead, I left feeling incredibly fulfilled. I connected with so many people — some familiar, some brand new — and left the night with a full heart and a list of people I want to get to know better.
Before accepting this opportunity, I was anxious. I worried no one would pre-book. I let that voice of self-doubt creep in — the one that says I’m “too inexperienced” or “too expensive.” But to my surprise and gratitude, every slot was booked before Friday night — and I even squeezed in a few walk-ins.
Another challenge? Delivering RAWs. I’ve always felt more comfortable sending polished edits. But part of what made this experience so beautiful was letting go of that perfectionism. I airdropped RAWs immediately after each session — and to see people genuinely happy with the unedited moments felt like a huge personal win. It reminded me that the truth in photography doesn’t always need retouching.
As I continue working with sustainable brands and creatives, I’ve started to embrace the imperfections that come with real-time photography. There’s something powerful in letting go of control and capturing honest, fleeting moments. They can't be recreated — and that’s what makes them so special.
I’m also incredibly grateful to have worked with Sarah, the beautiful mind behind The Block Set Project and Viridia. Her styling and creative direction brought the set to life in ways that inspired me deeply. I also want to thank Sarah of Naseeb Studio and Minimal Chaos for generously opening up her beautiful space to us. Their energy, vision, and kindness made this entire experience even more rewarding.
